Shoshone bridge work half done

Aug 13, 2023Aug 13, 2023

Work on the bridge over the Shoshone River is proceeding on schedule. Traffic should be rerouted to the other side of the bridge soon after Labor Day according to WYDOT officials.

According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) Public Relations Officer Cody Beers, work on the bridge over the Shoshone River is going well and moving along as planned.

Traffic should be moved right after Labor Day to the second side.

Beers says that about 50% of the work has been completed so far.

Delays have happened due to rain throughout the project and have added a few more weeks to the project schedule.

Beers said the initial $3 million dollar cost estimate is still on track and he expected the project to be completed around the middle of October.

Regarding the tunnel lighting system and how it’s progressing, Beers said the contractor is currently placing conduit and entrance lights on the east bound lane.

“The west bound lane has been completed,” he said. “The remaining lights that go through the remainder of the tunnel were shipped this week. The contractor should start installing them soon.”

Beers also gave an update for the Big Horn Avenue pedestrian crosswalk. It is open and currently carrying students. He added the school district is employing a crossing guard before school and after work.

When asked about plans to replace the orange cones with a concrete barrier when school got out last spring, he said it still may happen.

“The city is taking care of that, stay tuned,” said Beers on Wednesday.
